Stuffing Wedding Invitations ~ Where Do the Enclosures Go?

Lately, it’s been like a revolving door in our boutique with brides in and out coming to pick up their invitation orders to send out to announce their big day. We seem to be answering this question time and time again: where do our accessory cards go? Our job is to help our brides present their wedding paper to their guests with elegance and style, so we happily show them how to assemble. For a more formal answer, we turned to one of our favorite companies, Crane & Co., for the answer:

For the most part, wedding invitations are assembled in size order. The invitation itself is first. The enclosure cards are stacked on top of the invitations, not inside. The reception card is placed on top of the invitation. Then the reply envelope is placed face down on the reception card. The reply card is slipped face up beneath the flap of the reply envelope. These are the most frequently used enclosures.

Any other enclosures are added face up in size order (usually at-home card, directions card, accommodation card, pew card, etc.). The single-fold invitation and its enclosures are placed into the inside envelope with the fold of the invitation at the bottom of the envelope and the engraving facing the back of the envelope. You can tell whether or not you stuffed the envelope correctly by removing the invitation with your right hand. If you can read the invitation without turning it, it was stuffed correctly.

The procedure for assembling traditional invitations (those with a second fold) is similar. The enclosures are placed on top of the lower half of the invitation’s face in the same order described above. The invitation is folded from top to bottom over the enclosures. The invitation is then placed into the inside envelope with the fold toward the bottom of the envelope. As with other invitations, traditional invitations are correctly stuffed when they can be read without being turned after being removed from the envelope with your right hand.

Once stuffed, the inside envelopes are inserted into the outside envelopes. The front of the inside envelope faces the back of the outside envelope.

Spring is here ~ So is Lilly!

via pinterest

Spring is finally here!

The weather is beautiful and we couldn’t be happier with all this sunshine and our new shipment of Lilly Pulitzer arriving in the store, we are overloaded in color. We are just bursting with excitement! I am a huge fan of Lilly ~ the bright colors and big, bold prints always brighten a room. We can see why so many of our brides choose for it to big a huge part of their wedding day as well. So, I did a little research on how you can include our favorite lady in your wedding day as well.

Many of our brides are purchasing Lilly items for members of their bridal party. Lilly has some fabulous coolers that you can easily monogram and of course, what ladies don’t love a cute bag to carry on the beach!

What if Lilly encompassed everything you wanted in your day: the bright colors, big prints, in a classy and formal way.

First, you can choose your favorite dress from the collection and make those your bridesmaids’ dresses. Then have the groomsmen wear a neutral colored suit and a bow-tie or tie that matches the pattern or color of your gals’ dresses.

If that is not enough bright and bold color for you, include the same pattern of your bridesmaid dresses onto your save-the-dates or even on a couple of your tables for your reception. These bright pinks and greens will keep your guests in the vivacious and exuberant mood to keep celebrating your wedding all night long!

Happy Lilly!

Wedding Wednesday~ My Brother’s Proposal!

As I’m about to travel home this weekend for my niece Abby’s 1st birthday, I remembered that I forgot to write a blog I promised Alison. My brother, Kyle, got engaged Christmas Eve to his girlfriend of six-years Shannon. I got to set up and witness the entire thing and to see the utter shock and happiness all within seconds come over her face. It filled me with so much joy. I cannot wait to finally welcome Shannon into my family. And as big as my family is, we are all so excited and cannot wait to have another family member to add to this crazy bunch. I thought I’d share the story of the day and some of the pictures I happened to capture as I was hiding in my little corner.

The corner I was hiding in during the proposal.

I was working at Cafe Caturra my part-time job, in the back rolling silverware when one of my co-workers came back and said a guy and a girl are here to see you so. I came out front and I was surprised to see it was my brother and his friend Lauren. He said I have something to tell you. I braced   myself for bad news as a huge smile came over his face and he said, “I just bought Shannon an engagement ring.” I automatically teared up and hugged him. I couldn’t believe my brother was getting married. After my initial shock left me, I went into planning mode. Kyle told me since he finally decided to purchase the ring, he just couldn’t wait any longer to propose. So, we decided Christmas break was perfect.

Our neighborhood surrounds a man-made lake and has a beautiful clubhouse in front of it. Since it was winter, Kyle decided that’s where he wanted to propose. Shannon and Kyle have spent many memorable times at the lake, and it was the perfect place for him to surprise Shannon with the engagement. It was already decorated with Christmas decorations and the amazing Paula who works at the store with us, sent me home with a  box full of tea light candles to add the finishing touches.

The day finally came and Kyle wasn’t nervous at all. He had chosen the song he was going to play during the moment his best friend, Andrew, had arrived from Winston-Salem to celebrate. Of course I was there to help out as well, and  Shannon was still clueless. So, we started to set up the clubhouse.

Thanks Paula for the candles!Andrew lighting all the candles

Practicing his pose

The plan was for Shannon to eat with her friend Heather. Heather was also recently engaged and asked Shannon to come with her to a meeting with her wedding photographer with her in Biltmore Lake, where we live, Shannon of course would agree  to go with Heather. Then instead of Heather pulling into  where her fake photographer lives she pulled into the lake parking lot and informed Shannon she had to blindfold her. Kyle is hiding in a bush at this point and walks up and opens the door. Shannon hears his voice, and he  walks her to the clubhouse and then unties her blindfold in front of the tree. Here are some fun pictures of us trying to find his hiding spot before she arrives.

I made him pose with this tree. I'm pretty sure I quoted, "Look manly, it's your last shot as a single man!"

Trying to find a good hiding place

And of course, the plan went just as we hoped. Except Shannon was more shocked than we thought she would be. Once blindfolded she said she knew what was coming but, she was just so shocked that Kyle never got to actually be one one knee, so that previous picture is the only picture I got of him on one knee. But, the love and the happiness that consumed the room cannot even put into words. So I’ll just share my last pictures with you. Sorry for the poor quality, keep in mind I’m not the best photographer and I was hidden in a corner :)

They're ENGAGED! She said Yes!

Here Comes the Bride…to Our Bridal Open House

Thanks sooooo much to the brides, grooms, families, friends who came out to our bridal open house last Wednesday and Saturday. The gals at Cute Buttons (and Tiki too) were inundated with great questions and loved meeting all of the people who are getting ready for their upcoming nuptials! We learned that navy and forms of oranges and greens are hot colors this year. We also learned that so many brides are still interested in pockets ~ the type of invitation that keeps all of the pieces securely in one place. And of course letterpress is always a popular favorite.

Thanks to Belk’s for providing the great china pieces and to Lana Addison for their gorgeous bridal attire. Here are a few pics from the event. Of course, we had to snap Tiki caught red-handed trying to nibble on some of the flowers!

Wedding Wednesday~ Kids or No Kids

So the million-dollar question in our boutique lately has been this, “How do you politely state that your wedding ceremony and reception for adults only?” We understand that you want your ceremony to be filled with fun and endless dancing, not memories of trying to tune out the baby crying during your vows. So, here are just a couple of tips you can try to help politely tell your guests what you want:

  • Use your reply card as a gateway. If you don’t want your stationer to print the words “Adult Affair” on your invitation (which is acceptable) you can use your reply card as your gateway. Simply work with your stationer to create wording on your reply card that asks “Number of Adults Attending”. This will show the guest that their little Sally isn’t included in the reception head count. Use an extra line for guests to check if they need recommendations for childcare.
  • Address your wedding invitation inner envelopes to indicate which family members are actually invited to the wedding. If your invitations come with inner and outer envelopes, address the outer envelope to The Smith Family, and then address the inner envelope specifically to Johnston and Margot. This will subtly signal to the family to make arrangements for their adorable three-year-old, Maddie.
  • Use your wedding website as a resource for your guests to learn more about your upcoming day including the information about the adult affair.
